Information for Rescue Groups

  1. Do not conduct on-site adoption. Animal abusers, including satanic cults that sacrifice animals, have become very savvy in obtaining pets.
  2. Make a copy of their drivers licence
  3. Conduct a home visit on all potential adoptor
  4. Check vet references prior to placing the animal. Has your adoptee gone through too many pets? Have their pets obtained proper medical care? Ask the veterinarian if they would feel comfortable adopting a pet to the adoptor.
  5. Make sure all family members are present when conducting home visits.
  6. Your adoption contract should contain a no chains or pen clause. Life on a chain or in a pen is no place for an animal. The contract should allow you to take the animal if you find it chained or living in a pen. If they want to keep their dog on a chain or in a pen they don't deserve a dog.

A good felony anti-cruelty law should:

* Apply to all animals.
* Apply to first-time offenders.
* Have large fines and lengthy prison time as penalties.
* Have no exemptions.
* Allow or require convicted abusers to get counseling at their own expense.
* Prohibit abusers from possessing animals or living where animals are present.
